The Villagers kicked off the new season at the Offside Trust Stadium in perfect style with an impressive victory against Wythenshawe Town on Saturday afternoon.
Goals in each half from front men Luke Wilson-Jones and James McShane doing the damage as James McShane's men picked up their second win from their opening three games.
Wilson-Jones got his side off to the perfect start as he applied the finish after getting on the end of a pinpoint assist from the lively Lee Vaughan to give his side an early lead. As both sides struggled to adjust to the tough conditions, the visitors settled and started applying pressure and found themselves level five minutes before the break after Arran Lyons failed to deal with Connor Brotherton effort from distance.
Half Time: Barnton 1-1 Wythenshawe Town
The second half saw the Villagers grow into the contest and Jason McShane was on hand to give his side the lead after some great work from Reece Dwyer to lay it on a plate for McShane.
Rather than digging in and holding out for the win, the Villagers turned the screw late on and were unluckly not to put the game to bed. First McShane was denied by a fantastic save and then Callum Jakovlevs denied Dwyer with yet another top save.
The visitors applied late pressure but were unable to create any clear cut openings, as the Barnton back four held firm and picked up an impressive victory.
