A look back at the start to the season

A couple of weeks into the new season we catch up with the Under 21s captain Jay Smith and new signing Alex Jones.

The Villagers have made an impressive start to the season and Aaron Kenyon's men find themselves second in the league after 7 games.

Last Sunday they saw off Stalybridge Celtic away from home, with the three goals coming in the second half.

Captain Jay Smith has been encouraged by the start that the team has made:"These past few games we have looked more like a team working together. The general attitude is positive and everybody is confident in our abilities and performances."

He added: "The results we have been getting are good and are a result of our hard work however, we still feel that we could improve in areas and must keep getting better and better to progress."

Centre half Alex Jones joined the club a few weeks back and has enjoyed his time as a Villagers so far: "The last few results have been a bit up and down recently. We had a solid performance midweek against Witton in which we got the 3 points and kept a clean sheet and then more of a disappointing performance away at Winstanley that saw us go from 3-0 up against 10 men to losing 4-3 late on."

He added: "Unfortunately I wasn’t there myself but I can imagine how the lads would of felt after that loss but to bounce back the way we did and beat a good Stalybridge side 3-0 was fantastic so hopefully we can take that performance in to Sunday to get the 3 points and stay top."

Sunday sees the team host Tranmere Rovers at Winsford United with kick off at 4.30pm entry is free of charge get down and back the lads.
