Two defeats in two days for the Villagers

The Villagers fell to back to back preseason defeats this midweek as they were beaten away to Lostock Gralam on Wednesday evening, before falling short against our new tenants 1874 Northwich on Thursday night.

Thursday’s clash was a designated ‘away’ game for us with 1874 hosting us in their first game at their new home, and fans were treated to a thrilling contest with a late comeback win for 74.

Luke Wilson-Jones continued his impressive preseason with an excellent goal after he’d made the most of a defensive mix up to give the Villagers the lead after 23 minutes.

Reece Dwyer was the on hand to double the Villagers lead after linking up with Wilson-Jones before applying a smart finish.

We were unable to hold onto our two goal lead into the break as the home side got themselves back into the game with the impressive Nathan Okome scoring right on half tome.

Half Time: 1874 Northwich 1-2 Barnton

The second half saw the home side turn the screw and they applied the pressure with them hitting the woodwork before Arran Lyons denied them a certain leveller with an outstanding stop.

Wilson-Jones did though have a golden chance to restore our two goal advantage but blazed over after he was put in on goal.

With just 15 minutes left to play 74 levelled through Mark Jones and then the lethal Scott McGowan struck the winner with a free kick from distance.

It was a defeat of a different nature on Wednesday evening as we were well beaten by Lostock Gralam at the Park stadium.

Luke Sutton levelled the contest up for us early into the first half, before Sam Houghton gave us the lead after 21 minutes.

That was as good as it got for us as the home side punished us over and over again as they eventually ran out 6-2 winners.

Next up on Saturday is the visit of Runcorn Linnets to the Offside Trust stadium, with kick off at 2pm with entry just £2 across the board with kids getting in for free!
