Ahead of the new season we managed to have a couple of minutes with our Under 21 manager Aaron Kenyon, who is delighted to be at the club:
"I would like to start by saying a big thank you to everyone at Barnton FC for making me and my team so welcome. We are very excited for our 1st game of the season next week away at Stockport Town."
The preseason campaign has seen the Under 21s train and follow the same regime and plan as the first time: "Our pre season training has required hard work & dedication over the last two months with a fitness programme matching that of the 1st team. "
Kenyon believes the hard work will stand his team in good stead: "This was an important step in creating a bond between the 1st team and the U21’s as well as increasing the stamina within my team."
Last weekend saw the team pick up a notable preseason scalp beating North West Counties side Atherton LR away from home a result that delighted the manager: "Looking at the squad now with only a week before kick off, the mood within camp has elevated especially with the last few games ending with excellent results. To round if off with our game against Atherton LR saw us come back from a defeat with a 2-1 of which I am very proud."
He added: "The opposition manager even claimed in his report that we brought on 1st team players at half time where in fact it was the complete opposite. Our pre season has been tough as we have played Cheshire Prem teams and North west county sides too, this is specifically to get the lads up to a very quick pace on transition with and without the ball but also the physical side of the game but most importantly to get to match fit."
Looking ahead Kenyon is happy with his squad and the options available to him: "We have lots of new faces who have all seemed to settle in well and has also created healthy competition for places not just in the U21’s but some have sights to get into the 1st team too."
He is excited by the future and is grateful to the people at Winsford for giving his side a home for the new season: "The whole squad cannot wait to get going and we are very lucky that we have a new home for the season at Winsford United, whom I would like to say a Big thank you to Mr Duckworth along with our board supporting us on the move. I feel this will help the players to get a step nearer to county level not just because of the surroundings but also on how we go about playing our football."
